Communication Studio:: "The Picture of Dorian Gray" Poster design.

Current assignment for Communication Studio II::

Design a poster for a reading of a book.
I picked "The Picture of Dorian Gray" written by, needless to say, Oscar Wilde.
(I also was tempted by George Orwell's "1984"...my favorite book by Orwell!! or Nabokov's "Lolita", but both of those books were taken by my classmates...)

Week 2::
Pick 3 central themes of the book, and create 7 visual metaphors each.
My themes are; "Beauty", "Superficiality (on an individual level, as well as that of society)" and "Influences from others//Consequences".
Original media included; graphite, tombo pen, copic markers, origami, collage, etc...

Current Process::
Refining the 21 visual metaphors that I created, working primarily on Photoshop (CS3 at home, CS4 at school... I still feel comfortable with CS3 but... it's time for me to catch up with the new fancy features)

I'm still trying to explore as many different styles as possible. My influences for illustrations include Aubrey Beardsley, Takato Yamamoto and Miaki (an underground-illustrator based in Japan)... I'm both excited and scared which metaphor my instructor is going to pick for my final poster...!
